Cebu Island is not only a popular resort destination but also has become a favored place for studying abroad in recent years. When people think of traveling to the Philippines, many probably imagine Cebu Island.
From Cebu (Mactan Island), island hopping to places like Nalusuan Island and Hilutungan Island are particularly popular. With over 7,000 islands that make up the Philippines, there are still many more beautiful islands to discover.
In this post, I’ll be recommending six relatively accessible islands that are great for beginners, based on my personal experience living in the Philippines. These are islands that are easy to get to and are ideal for first-time visitors.
If you’re unsure where to go on your Philippine trip, I hope this list will help you decide.
Boracay Island
Boracay Island is a world-renowned beach resort located on Panay Island in the Philippines. It is famous for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant nightlife.
It’s an island that is often recommended by my Filipino friends as well.
How to Get to Boracay Island
The main airports that serve Boracay are Caticlan Airport and Kalibo Airport. Personally, I recommend flying into Caticlan Airport. The reason for this is that if you fly into Kalibo Airport, you’ll need to take a 2-hour land transfer to Caticlan Port before catching a boat to Boracay. If you’re fine with long journeys, this might not be an issue for you. The boat ride from Caticlan Port to Boracay Port takes about 30 minutes. However, it’s important to note that Caticlan Airport is more prone to delays, so it’s best to be flexible with your schedule.
Recommended Highlights of Boracay Island
White Beach: The most famous beach on Boracay Island, White Beach, is known for its soft, powdery white sand. This expansive beach stretches over 4 kilometers, offering plenty of space to relax while enjoying breathtaking sunsets.
Water Sports: Boracay is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. You can enjoy activities such as windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, and more. The clear waters and gentle winds make it an ideal spot for both beginners and experienced athletes.
Nightlife: Boracay is also famous for its lively nightlife. Along the beach, you’ll find a variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs where you can enjoy music, dancing, and drinks until late into the night. The island has a fun, vibrant atmosphere after the sun sets, with options for both relaxed beachfront hangouts and more energetic party scenes.
Palawan
From Manila, a direct flight to the northern region of El Nido takes about an hour. Airlines such as Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air operate flights to this picturesque destination.
Often referred to as the “last frontier of the Philippines,” El Nido offers a wealth of scenic spots, including Calasaguen Beach and Miniloc Island. It’s an ideal location for diving and snorkeling, with crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life.
Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, located within the park, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its stunning limestone caves and subterranean river. This natural wonder is one of the most unique and beautiful spots in the country.
